The term reading comprehension has several different definitions. This is because readers usually have some prior knowledge, or schema, about the topic. Using prior knowledge, the reader makes predictions about the meaning of the material. In other words, the reader’s prior knowledge can be a powerful influence on his comprehension of the text.
