Knock, Knock: How Do I Get In?: What Do I Need to Be Admitted?
Community colleges pride themselves on their "open door" or open admissions policies that do not impose many restrictions on admission"that is, the process of being officially recognized as a student at a college. Where Should You Apply?: Some Cautions About Data
Where Should You Apply?: Some Cautions About Data
With growing numbers of college applicants and the explosion of test preparation services, GPA and test scores at selective colleges have been increasing every year, along with the number of applications. To be sure you are using current data, buy the most recent edition of the big book or check individual college statistics on their Web sites. Even the newest editions of the big books may be slightly out of date, since it takes at least a year to collect the data for publication. Web sites such as www.collegeboard.com also have this built-in lag. Schools can take off in just one year, dropping from a 35 percent to a 25 percent admission rate without warning (even to themselves) because the number of applications spikes unexpectedly. At the super-selective end of the spectrum, the admission rate is already so low that increases in the applicant pool do not affect the admissions statistics very much. They are scary enough as they are anyway.

Importance of University Accreditation
Importance of University Accreditation
Check a particular school's accreditation. The best way to confirm a university's accreditation is at the U.S. Department of Education web site. If your school isn't listed with its regional or national accreditation at the site - it may not be a real school. There are a number of horror stories associated with not thoroughly checking out a school's accreditation - with most being about people who threw large sums of money at "schools" that were not located in the United States, only to find out when they received their "degree" in the mail - that the piece of paper was not accepted by their employer, potential employer, or other educational institution.
