Paying for College / Obama School Grants![]() President Obama was instrumental in getting the stimulus bill through the House and Senate shortly after he stepped into the presidency. This bill was designed to inject large amounts of money into companies and state governments that needed the boost. There of course has been lots of controversy about this bill and the massive amount of taxpayers money that it is doling out. One of the things that people think is included in the bill are personal grants for home improvement, school, and other things that everyday people need. There are millions of people who are hoping to get some of this biggest handout in our nation's history. However, most are finding that they hit a dead end when they start looking for grants. Not only is it very hard to sift through all the bureaucracy associated with these grants, but it is near impossible to understant what you need to do to qualify for them. The School Grants Situation President Obama has a few things like programs for Moms who want to go back to school and other things like that. there is nothing groundbreaking like people hoped for and this has led to some confusion about the what exactly is in the stimulus bill. Apart from the stimulus bill is Obama's new proposal to fundamentally change the way student loans are given out in this country. Private lending companies have always been in the business of determining who got loans to go to college. Now, Obama wants to take them out of the picture and have the loans go directly from the government to the students. Although this might seem alright on the surface, it would mean we are handing the decision of who in our society attends college over to the government. Do we want someone in Washington telling us who is and who isn't going to get loans which in effect is dictating which of our kids is going to college? Many people think that decision is not something the government should be involved in and that the Obama student loans bill should be defeated. Obama Grants - Can You Get Them? The stimulus bill and any grants associated with it were mostly intended for businesses and local governments. The bill's purpose was to get these companies out of trouble and to do some much needed work on this countries infrastructure. Very big companies that were deemed to big to fail got very large chunks of money because the though was that having them fail would do more damage than giving them the money. With the economy being in such poor shape, most local and state governments are having a terrible time making ends meet. State taxes have brought in much less money than is needed across the country and so this bailout money was designed to keep everything afloat and to save some jobs. Whether this bill was the right thing to do is the subject of countless debates and it will be something that is argued for the rest of our lives. Invidual people are having a hard time accessing the stimulus money and any grants associated with them. The grant process is a difficult one to understand and it is very hard to know what you need to do to apply for one correctly. Additionally, there is much confusion as to what kind of grants are really available for the common person. |
