Low-Cost

In-State tuition is approximately $6,500 and out of state tuition is nearly $22,000, which is relatively inexpensive. 63% of undergraduates receive need-based financial aid.

Large Enrollment

With undergrad enrollment surpassing 30,000 and total enrollment approaching 40,000, it’s easy to meet someone new every day. Yet at the same time, you will bump into people you know regularly. Arizona is a member of the Pac-10 (soon to be Pac-12) conference, making sports watching for alumni on the west coast a breeze. Alumni clubs gather in cities throughout the country to cheer on their cats and network.

Party School

In its May 2009 issue, Playboy magazine ranked Arizona the fifth best party school in the nation. In addition to bars and clubs, large parties are held at fraternities, residential houses in surrounding neighborhoods, and at large apartment complexes around town. Students are good looking.

Strong Greek Life

There are approximately 25 fraternity and sororities each at the University of Arizona. About 11% of all students are Greek, which is a high percentage. Greeks are very visible on campus, and much of Arizona’s nightlife occurs at fraternities, though you don’t necessarily need to be a member to partake. Almost all of the houses are located on or near campus.

Top Ranked Sports and Athletics

College basketball is king in Tucson. The Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team won the national championship under legendary coach Lute Olsen in 1997. Arizona held the second longest streak of NCAA tournament appearances at 25 until 2010 when they failed to make the tournament. Coach Sean Miller is guiding a younger team back to the top of the Pac-10 and national rankings. The McKale Center is the largest in the Pac 10 and holds its largest student section. It is regarded to be among the loudest in the nation. The arena, as well as Arizona's football and softball stadiums are on campus, making game-watching easy for students. Intramurals are popular and the number of sports available to students are numerous. The rec center is huge. It has new equipment, many basketball and handball/squash courts and a giant pool to lounge around.

Diverse Student Body

Minorities make up 34% of the student body: Hispanic 19%, Asian American 8%, African American 4%, American Indian 3%, White 63%. The University of Arizona has the 17th largest undergrad Jewish population among public schools at over 3,000 and 10% of the student population.

Beautiful Campus

Almost all buildings on campus are red brick which creates a cohesive look. A large open grass mall at the heart of campus is surrounded by palm trees and buildings. The recently developed student union is the largest in the country. An underground “integrated learning center” provides students access to state of the art computers and study areas.

College Town

Tucson feels like the biggest town in America. It sprawls to the mountains on three sides. Many students are content staying on or near campus. Tucson is the 32nd largest city and 52nd largest metropolitan area in the United States. It is the second largest in Arizona. The University of Arizona is about 120 miles southeast of Phoenix and 60 miles north of Mexico. Trips to Phoenix, border town Nogales and Spring Breaks in Rocky Point / Puerto Penasco are popular.

Hot Weather

Tucson is hot! Dry heat though (not humid) and always 5-10 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Get ready to wear shorts, tanks, and flip-flops. Scant clothing and popular UofA booty shorts make paying attention in class a challenge. Amazing sunrises and sunsets color the morning and evening skies. Golf and swimming pools are popular. Skiing is even possible for brief periods in the winter on nearby Mt. Lemmon.
